In the spring of
2006, Dennis was contacted by Katie Burchfield and commissioned to carve a rosary from olive wood from the Holy Land, that would be presented to Pope Benedict XVI on the Feast of the Holy Rosary,
October 7, 2008. Katie
Burchfield is a visionary. A deeply religious person, Katie has been experiencing visitations and visions from Jesus and his Mother Mary for over ten years. The message is simple:
heal the fissures that separate the Christian churches. Katie is sponsored by an influential Catholic organization and has visited officials in the Vatican. Her central vision
has been of Jesus as the bridegroom. The image includes a crowned, risen Christ, astride a globe with a sash emblazoned with the motto IHS
and a star of David, and robes with the alpha and omega symbols on each sleeve. Dennis' challenge was to translate Katie's vision into wood as a medallion placed opposite the crucifix on a rosary. The wood would
come from the Mount of Olives in the Holy Land. The beads and crucifix were up to Dennis to design, carve and build. |
